  • Tuesday evenings from 6-8pm starting 13 October to 15 December (10 weeks).
Our tutor,  Hugo Toro, will be teaching acrylic painting as his primary focus, as many of the techniques cross over well to the other media. If you are keen to explore watercolours or oils, Hugo will give you individual tuition.
HOW THE FORM WORKS

It is far easier and quicker to pay for a product or service on a website with a credit card / Debit card.

CAW has set up a simple form below to allow you to book your Workshop, Art Group or Tutored Class and pay immediately. You will receive an email confirming your booking and payment.

  1. Go to the form and select the appropriate Fee.
  2. The Total should reflect your selection
  3.  Complete your card details and then click SUBMIT.

If applicable on the form you selected, our 'count-down' shows you how many spots are still available for this class. It reduces after every booking and when '0' no more bookings can be made. However, the SUBMIT button still works. So please DO NOT click submit when you see '0' spots left.

Hugo has been practising art for many years. He is largely self-taught but has further developed his skills with formal art training, workshops and by tutoring others. He taps into natural creative skills inherited from his mother, who also loved art. He has exhibited at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre and also exhibits regularly in CAW exhibitions.

He is working full time in the IT world and the Australian Public Service. Art has given him an opportunity to seek ‘work life balance’ and to achieve good personal mental health.

Hugo believes that a strong driver for practicing art is the link with good mental health. In a world of heavy financial, physical and emotional pressures his art group provides participants with the opportunity to wind down, switch off and achieve great creative results.

The Fundamentals Plus art group offers you a great opportunity to expand your skills by undertaking art projects in a mentored environment.

The Fundamentals Plus class is tutored by Hugo Toro on Tuesday evenings for 8 weeks per term and all skill levels are welcome.

Fundamentals Plus takes students through a series of exercises to enable development of their art skills. Hugo works alongside each person, explaining and demonstrating all aspects of their work as it progresses.

He also teaches participants about assembling their own tools and materials in order to progress an art project of their own over several weeks. Each term the program themes and art media are varied to provide participants with a range of experiences over the year.

Program Overview

Typically the program will look like this:
Week 1 – Getting started
Materials shopping list
Planning the art project with your tutor
Week 2 & 3 – Making progress
Preparing a good draft
Discussing progress and learning from others in the group
Week 4 and 5 – Developing a final draft
Checking perspective, tone and colour
Introducing detail
Week 6 – Achieving a good result
Working confidently and knowing when to stop
Applying final touches
Week 7 and 8 – Finishing the project
Finish a competent piece of work
Take away newly acquired skills

Materials List

Prior to commencing each term, Hugo will provide instructions and a materials list.

Generally he recommends student quality materials and equipment readily available from local art shops at reasonable prices. These will consist of:
