Exploring Abstraction
A six week course Mon 28th April – 2nd June 2025
This course is suited to a beginner painter as well as a more experienced artist who wants to explore abstract painting. In a fun and relaxing environment, prepare to challenge yourself to explore and experiment with new techniques and approaches to help you find your unique style of abstract painting.
We will explore key concepts of line, color, tone/value, shape and texture, test out compositions, get started with reckless abandon and use check points for analysing your work.
You will be introduced to some key figures in the world of abstract art and develop your ability to critically analyse these works.
In the final weeks you will work on your own abstract painting, referring to one form of a ‘checklist’ to guide the painting to completion.
The skills you will learn in this course can be applied to painting any subject matter in either realistic or abstract styles. The only requirement is a willingness to play and experiment.
