This course takes place in a learning and teaching environment where care and respect for others is in operation. You may choose to participate in one or more terms. Each term will build upon the knowledge and skills encountered in previous terms.
The course focuses on learning about and exploring the basic media, methods and techniques of drawing and painting. We’ll explore a range of ideas, concepts, themes and the language of art such as using colour in painting, how to draw portraits, composition in landscape painting. While developing knowledge, skills and confidence in your art abilities you will gain many hours of enjoyment.
Following introductory discussions of art concepts with visual examples from art history and other sources, exercises will be demonstrated, explained and taught. These include learning to see through the observation of simple objects, learning to interpret images from the outside world as well as creating new images from the inner world of the imagination.
Drawing from the figure is an excellent way to develop skills in art. In the Figurative Studies section of each term, we'll employ a live model (unclothed) in the studio. The model fee is included in the price of the course.
