• Brushes – if you don’t already have watercolour brushes, a mixed set of cheap synthetic brushes are good (available Officeworks and Eckersleys)

• A4 & A5 sketchbook – I am a particular fan of Strathmore Visual Journals because of the heavier grade paper (163gsm or 220gsm), but the Windsor & Newton (110gsm), Jasart (110gsm) and equivalent ones are completely fine (and much cheaper).
◦ Please don’t buy sketchbooks that are less than 110gsm.
◦ Please make sure to get ring-bound sketchbooks rather than casebound (hardback binding) – this will make sure that you don’t spend half the time trying to keep them open while drawing!
• A5 Concertina sketchbook – Derivan do a very reasonably priced one (available Eckersley’s). Make sure that the concertina sketchbook is made from reasonably thick watercolour paper
• Acrylic paint set – Born to Create Acrylic Paint Set (50 pieces) is great value and gives you lots of fun, bright colours (available Officeworks)
