This Workshop is for those who have some experience with Soft Pastel but wish to improve their skill with this expressive yet forgiving Medium. In this workshop, we will take an in-depth look at how to approach some of the major elements of the Landscape, Trees, Rocks, Grasses and Clouds. Participants will complete some exercises designed to develop skills for confident handling of both subject and medium. Participants will then work from their own reference material to complete Landscapes under Amanda’s guidance. There will be lots of advice on best practice and plenty of helpful tips and tricks.

Materials list

• A selection of good quality soft pastels (NOT Oil Pastels)
• You will need a selection of paper suitable for your subjects. I recommend Colourfix Original pastel paper by Art Spectrum or Canson Mi Teintes Touch both are sanded papers. I recommend working Small (A4 or A3) for the workshop so that you can finish pieces. I do have a limited range of small A4 size Colourfix for $3/sheet if you can’t get any
• Kneadable Eraser
• A black & a white Charcoal pencil (General Brand are the best) I do have some of these available to purchase if you can’t get them
• A cheap (the “$2 Shop” variety), stiff bristled “Bright” (short brittles) paintbrush, about 1.5cm wide
• Glassine paper, to protect your work in transit.
• Several sheets of Butchers paper or news print
• A selection of your own images of the landscape to work from, 2-3 depending on how fast you work. Ideally these should contain, in any combination, Trees, Rocks, Grasses and or Clouds
• Thick Baby Wipes, a variety without too many oily additives in them or a damp cloth, for hand cleaning
