About the tutor
Primarily known for her oil and acrylic painting, drawing, printmaking and collage, Maryanne Wick is a graduate and a Public Programs lecturer at the National Art School in Sydney.
Maryanne has held numerous solo exhibitions in Australia, South Korea and Spain. Her work is held in private and public collections. She has participated in group exhibitions and artist residencies in Australia, South Korea, China, the USA and in Spain. Painting awards include the Minister’s Prize (NSW) in 2000, the Korea-Australia Art Foundation Prize in 2015 and more recently, the Macarthur Award at the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award in 2023.
Appointed resident artist in 2018 by the Museo Municipal de Valdepenas in Ciudad Real, Spain, her still life paintings and prints, based on ancient Iberia, were exhibited twice in Spain and at Campbelltown Arts Centre in 2022. Represented by Art Atrium in Sydney and Lorraine Pilgrim in Queensland, Maryanne is currently working towards her next solo exhibition in Sydney.
Materials list
The following is required for this workshop :-
Canvases/ canvas boards – 1 x medium and 2 x small (no smaller than A4 size). Your choice of shape. One more if you feel the need!
Surfaces – In advance of the workshop, prime your canvas surfaces (and edges) at least twice with white Gesso. Use a flat, wide brush. Aim for a smooth finish (by adding a little water to the Gesso). Let dry between each coat.
Brushes for painting – bring along your favourite brushes (Flat and Filbert). Include at least one wide brush (15 or 20 mm wide).
A set of flat, soft, synthetic brushes, ranging from 2mm to 15mm is a good way to start your collection.
Oil paints – Essential for this workshop are the Primary colours; a rich red, a yellow and a blue (suggest the Cadmium colours). Plus, a black and a white.
Odourless turps and a glass jar with a lid (important)
Small bottle of linseed oil (optional)
Large plate or palette
Cling film or foil
Paper masking tape (white, medium width 24 mm)
Variety of rags (important)
Small towel and barrier cream for hands.
Wear appropriate closed-in shoes and a painting apron or an old shirt. Oil can get messy! Your paintings will be wet, so plan how you will carry them home.
A container to take used rags etc home for disposal
