Create a unique series of hand-printed artworks using locally sourced leaves and grasses. Botanical mono-printing uses real plant specimens as templates to produce richly textured images on paper.
In this three-hour workshop, you’ll learn how to prepare and ink your plants and printing plates, then run them through an etching press to create a vibrant set of one-of-a-kind botanical prints.
Experiment with colour, layering, drawing, and stencils to further personalise your designs.
This morning session is a stand-alone workshop, but enrolment into the afternoon linocut workshop (on the same day) is welcomed for participants interested in combining/layering two complementary printmaking techniques.

Materials list

â—¦ Apron
â—¦ Ruler and pencils
â—¦ A4 cartridge paper or newsprint to protect artworks for taking home.
â—¦ If you have one, bring a soft brayer/roller (some provided).

All other materials, including botanical specimens, ink, paper, brayers, etc., provided by the tutor.

About the tutor

Dr Fenja T. Ringl is a Canberra-based printmaker whose work is shaped by Australia’s distinctive ecological and cultural landscapes. She works across a range of printmaking techniques including linocut, solar- and aluminium- etching, and monotype. She also combines traditional printmaking techniques with ceramic processes to produce distinctive clay-based artworks.
Trained as an archaeologist, she draws on years of travelling and working across the country’s diverse environments. She first turned to printmaking during fieldwork as a way to interpret the natural world, and that early curiosity has since grown into a full-time creative practice.
This workshop runs alongside her exhibition Hearths Hills Habitat at Belco Arts.
