Life drawing is an experience that is unlike any of our daily encounters with other people. The challenge to draw a naked body, with all its complexity and individuality, is endlessly engaging and an absolute privilege.
This five-week course is designed to be a supportive introduction to life drawing for beginners and assumes no prior experience. Over the course you will be instructed on the main elements for success in observational drawing from how to stand at an easel, what to pay attention to and where to start. Each session will begin with a series of quick drawings of the model, followed by longer poses aimed at developing your ability to draw more accurately, what you see and not what you know. You will be guided in how to find shapes within and around the body to draw in proportion and tackle complex foreshortening poses. There will be demonstrations on how to use the basic drawing media with line and tone to create a sense of the form of the figure within a space.
