Marie will guide students through various approaches to drawing the figure, from the classical/historical to the contemporary with activities aimed at developing ones eye, observational skills and improving drawing techniques.

About the tutor

I’ve held over 20 solo exhibitions in commercial galleries, in: Nancy Sever Gallery (2021); Olsen Gruin Gallery New York (2019); Olsen Galleries (1998-current); Crawford Gallery (1991); Karen Woodbury Gallery (2011, 2015); Christine Abrahams Gallery (2005-2008); Ben Grady Gallery (1989-2002); Helen Maxwell Gallery (1997); also solo-shows at the Canberra Contemporary Art Space (1988, 2016) and Canberra Museum and Gallery (5-year survey, 2007).

Survey shows of contemporary art include 2004: Australian culture now (National Gallery of Victoria 2004); Sweet spot (Ian Potter Museum of Art, University of Melbourne 2009); Something in the air (CMAG 2010); Contemporary Australia: women (Queensland Art Gallery 2012); Pulse: reflections on the body (CMAG 2014-15); and Celebration; 20-years of collecting visual art at CMAG (CMAG 2018); Guirguis Art Prize (Art Gallery of Ballarat 2019); Flow Line (CMAG 2019); Contour 556 (Canberra Glassworks 2020) Know My Name (National Gallery of Australia 2021).

I’ve been a finalist in a number of national prize exhibitions including the Moët & Chandon touring exhibition (1995); John McCaughey memorial prize (National Gallery of Victoria 2004); Conrad Jupiters art prize (Gold Coast City Art Gallery, 2005); Wynne prize (Art Gallery of New South Wales 2005, 2006, 2007); Geelong Gallery contemporary art prize (2004, 2016); the Works on paper (Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery (2016); and the National self-portrait prize (University of Queensland 2016).

My work is held in collections including: National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Queensland Art Gallery, Artbank, ACT Legislative Assembly, Canberra Museum and Galley, Bendigo Art Gallery, Gold Coast City Art Gallery, Australian National University
