Explore two fascinating and highly creative printmaking processes in this hands-on one-day workshop with artist Sallie Saunders.

You’ll experiment with both paper marbling and botanical printing on fabric, discovering how each technique can be used to create unique patterns, prints and surfaces.

In marbling, you’ll work with floating inks and colour to create fluid, organic patterns, experimenting with movement and the unpredictable nature of the process. You’ll also learn how to create botanical prints on fabric using a press, working with leaves and plant materials to transfer their natural shapes, textures and details onto cloth.

Sallie will demonstrate both techniques and guide you through the processes, with plenty of opportunity to experiment and create your own prints. The order of the techniques will be flexible throughout the day, allowing you to move between the two processes and build on your ideas.

Suitable for beginners as well as those with some printmaking experience, this workshop is a great opportunity to try two very different and engaging printing processes.

About the tutor

Sallie Saunders is a mixed media artist and exhibiting member of the Canberra Art Workshop. Her practice explores the complex layers of memory and emotion connected with people, places and environments.

Working across a range of mixed media processes, Sallie enjoys combining materials and techniques to build layers, texture and depth within her work. She is particularly interested in the unexpected results that can emerge through experimentation and the way different processes can be brought together to create richly layered surfaces.

Sallie brings her curiosity, knowledge and enthusiasm for mixed media to her teaching, encouraging students to experiment with different processes and discover the possibilities of working across materials.
