Materials list

Collect what you can. Bring what you have. This is an extensive material list of which you may not use everything.Do not worry if you can’t get something as we will make do
Call me if you have questions- 0409215107 ( leave a msg as I don’t always answer numbers not in my contacts)
Paints – Bring the paints you have. I suggest artist acrylics if you can as the results are so much better. I use Atelier Interactive and Mattise structure and flow. I also use sample pots of house paint for under colour. If you can only get student acrylics choose the ones which are thicker (Chroma A2 is a good one)
If you are a beginner, you can get away with mixing red, blue and yellow with white and black to get most colours.
We will be using a limited palette but it’s nice to use secondary colours in your limited palette too.
· Warm red (tomato )– pyrrole red or cadmium red medium
· Cool red- (crimson), alizarin crimson or naphthol crimson
· Warm yellow (sun)- cad yellow medium,
· Cool yellow (lemon)- acrylamide yellow light or cadmium yellow light, or lemon yellow
· Warm blue (royal)- ultramarine blue
· Cool blue (Green blue)-cerulean or pthalo, Prussian or cobalt
· Titanium White
· Black
·Some transparent colours(There is a square or a circle on the paint tube. Empty is transparent solid is opaque, and half and half is semitransparent._ Australian Sienna, transparent red oxide, transparent Venetian red, transparent umber are good colours.
Final Project. You can choose to work on canvas, board, or paper. Depending on how fast you work you can bring more if you need. Some people might just want to work on paper and that is fine. You can also choose a combination.
Choose from suggestions below.
-2 canvases -approx. 60x60cm approx. or any other size and orientation you like. If you are a beginner, no bigger than 60x60cm
-A2 mixed media cardboard
Paper
-10 pieces of A3 or larger cartridge paper or journal or sketch pad paper. This is for exercises that will need to hold paint so it should be thicker than computer paper.
-A choice of varied types of paper for printing and collage eg. computer paper, brown paper, tissue paper, rice paper, baking paper

-Mixed Media
Gesso- white (or cheap white paint). This is used to blend colours. It is translucent white, so creates soft effect. Chromacryl gesso is cheap and good.
Acrylic medium or PVA glue for sticking collage.
Charcoal
Water soluble crayons or pencils
Black ink and 2 coloured inks close on colour wheel. Eg: pink and orange
Tools and things- these are for mono-printing and collage making so whatever you think will make nice marks.

About the tutor

Ann Rayment lives in Dolphin Point NSW. She loves working with mixed media and enjoys the looseness and unpredictability of marks, experimenting with collage and colour in layers. She explores the subject through making direct responses with mediums such as ink, pastel, charcoal and acrylic paint. Her brush strokes are bold and energetic. Ann has held workshops all over Australia and it is her passion to pass on her knowledge to other artists. She believes everyone can paint – it’s all about having the right mindset. Have fun with the process and don’t have high expectations of the product.
