Oil paints are one of the most popular mediums for painting because they are versatile and easy to adjust while working, making them a good choice for beginners. The course will cover the elements of art and design such as line and shape; colour mixing and the tone value of colour; the Notan system of dark-light harmony: warm and cool colours; the Zorn palette; methods of de-saturating pure colour; painting techniques such as fat over lean; opacity vs transparency, impasto, scumbling, blending and modelling; composition, cropping and the value of the abstract within the picture plane; using a brush, mediums and solvents; setting a palette; care in using wet paint and transporting your materials; and the clean-up.
Using a few basic art materials in targeted exercises, this course aims to build self-confidence in your art and design.
