Explore the beauty and character of Australia’s iconic gum trees in this one-day oil painting workshop with artist Erin Stonestreet.

Weather permitting, the workshop will include time working on location around Lake Ginninderra, giving participants the opportunity to observe the trees, landscape and changing light firsthand before developing their paintings.

Erin will demonstrate approaches to working with oil paint, colour mixing, brushwork, layering and creating texture, with a focus on capturing the distinctive shapes, colours and atmosphere of the Australian landscape.

Working from observation and reference material, you’ll develop your own painting with guidance and demonstrations throughout the day. Whether you’re new to oils or looking to build on your existing skills, this workshop offers a chance to slow down, look closely and explore your own approach to painting gum trees.

About the tutor

Erin Stonestreet is a contemporary realist artist working primarily in oil painting, living and working in the Canberra region. Best known for her portraits and figurative work, Erin brings a keen eye for observation, light, colour and detail to her paintings.

Erin has studied extensively in Australia, the United States and Europe, and has exhibited in group shows in both Australia and the United States. Her work is held in private collections across Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Erin also enjoys painting the Australian landscape, with a particular interest in capturing the character, light and atmosphere of gum trees and their surroundings. She brings her experience as an oil painter to her teaching, encouraging students to slow down, observe closely and develop their own approach to painting the landscape.
