Nick hopes to introduce participants to several techniques which can be easily incorporated to enliven their approach to painting. Foremost amongst these are:
● Image transfer (the transference of a photocopied image onto canvas using a gel medium)
● The combining of paint with silicon oil to create abstract patterns for use as a foundation for figurative paintings.
The use of ink for the same reasons.
● The creation and use of stencils in developing figurative compositions.
● Also the use of paint spreaders, rollers and sprays in applying paint as well as techniques such as ‘squaring up’ sketches or collages to transfer the image to a large canvas.
The application of the techniques mentioned to different subject matter – landscape, portrait and figuration.
Participants will create their own images with these techniques over the course of the weekend.

About the tutor

Nick Offer is a multi award winning figurative painter based in Canberra. He has participated extensively in exhibitions and award shows in Australia and abroad. Two of his large works are about to be exhibited at the European Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona.

Nick’s approach to figuration combines numerous techniques which he has adapted to suit his needs. These include image transfer, silicon paint pouring, stencilling and spray painting as well as more traditional methods of tonal oil painting. He often works from digitally generated collages which form the basis of large multi media canvases. He applies paint to these in such a way as to combine realistic and abstract elements.
