In this beginner’s digital art class, Bobby takes you through the steps to draw on your iPad with your Apple Pencil/Stylus. We will use the Procreate App, which you should download prior to class.

Bobby will demonstrate:

Gallery - how to create a canvas for your project: choose a preset canvas, or create a custom canvas for your creation.

Colours - how to select and store your favourite colours as swatches and create colour palettes for later use.

Brushes - how to sketch, ink, paint, smudge and erase with hundreds of versatile brushes.

Layers - how to move, edit, recolour and delete elements.

With examples and opportunities to draw at all stages, by the end of the class, you should have a good understanding of the Procreate basics - and how you can apply these to your own style and artwork.

MATERIALS to bring along

iPad: if you’re unsure whether your iPad model is suitable for using Procreate, please refer to the Procreate handbook, which provides a list of all the suitable iPad models: See https://procreate.art/faq
Procreate app: this app is MANDATORY. Please purchase it ($14.99) from the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/au/app/procreate/id425073498
Apple Pencil: if you’re unsure which Apple Pencil is compatible with your iPad model, Apple has a useful list: See https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211029
– [alternative to Apple Pencil: if you prefer to purchase another stylus (not an Apple Pencil), I confirm that my Bamboo stylus works on an iPad Pro. Of course your finger is fine too!]

One thing’s for sure: you’ll be drawing a LOT. This will be an active session where you will have plenty of opportunity to draw using your own style.

About the tutor

Antipodigital aka Slobodanka (Bobby) Graham is a Canberra digital artist. She is inspired by the city’s institutions, architecture, people, and especially cafes.

Since January 2021, Bobby has been running ‘Dive into Digital’ art courses in person and online. In addition to digital, Bobby runs pen and ink sketching courses. She has delivered these courses with ASOC, Belconnen Arts Centre and Strathnairn Arts Association.

In April 2021, Bobby had a solo exhibition, ‘UP FRONT: People and places of Canberra’, at The Front Cafe/Gallery.

In November 2019, Bobby published three gift books featuring her illustrations: Tram Travellers, Planepack, and Hush! Secrets of the National Library

Bobby holds a diploma in art therapy and enjoys sharing the meditative and uplifting experience of drawing, whether on paper or on iPad.
