Participants in this short course will explore a variety of paper folding techniques, starting with the concertina book. Through simple techniques such as relief printing, stamping, frottage, collage, stitching and mixed media. Using the classic concertina format, participants will create a sophisticated art object.
Over the 6 weeks there will be opportunities to explore other folding techniques such as the Star book and the Japanese stitched book.
Participants will be invited to make suggestions regarding projects.
About the tutor
Ilona Lasmanis is an experienced art educator and a multi-talented artist printmaker who has exhibited in solo artist and group shows in the Canberra region for the past 35+ years.
Ilona is a valued member of The Canberra Art Workshop and curator of the CAW members’ exhibitions.

This is a simple starter kit which will be added to over the sessions as our projects grow and evolve.
ruler – preferably metal
cutting knife
cutting board only if you have one – can share with group, we only need a few
lead pencil – HB or H
glue stick
scissors
scrap paper eg photocopy paper (to make mock ups)
cartridge paper; weight from 180gm to 225gm, whatever you have on hand
art work on paper ready to be recycled; eg old gelli prints, discarded watercolours et al.
collage materials suitable for 2D projects, eg hand made papers, textured papers, fabrics, photocopies etc.
