Meet first at the studio and then make our way to the lake.

Participants will be working outside by Lake Burley Griffin during the first morning. Then, back in the studio after lunch, Jan will give a demonstration related to the morning’s work. Participants will then abstract the scene, ‘Bringing Outside In’. Jan will be guiding and mentoring throughout this time.

Day 2 will be spent in the studio working up the painting from the previous day.

Materials list

  • Paints – oils or acrylics

  • Solvents – odourless please

  • Brushes – an assortment

  • Rags

  • Palette

  • Containers for water or solvent

  • Canvases – A good quality one or two – no smaller than 50 x 50cm – any shape and prepared with gesso

  • A photo or image that has meaning to you – a few if you are not sure, then we can choose.

  • Any tools you like to paint with or have in your art supply

  • A small stool and other items for painting en-plein-air (also a hat, water etc)

About the tutor

Jan Cristaudo lives on the Pittwater Peninsular among Sydney’s beautiful northern beaches. This idyllic location, together with her frequent travels, provides an endless source of inspiration.

The use of colour is her preferred method of expression and she has a distinctive style using oils on canvas to interpret the subjects that inspire her. Jan’s paintings are held by individual and corporate clients.
