We are an enthusiastic group of artists who like to challenge ourselves by drawing and painting from a live model. We seek models from all walks of life representing different professions, social settings, cultures and backgrounds. Working at our own pace, without tutoring, we have the model retain the same pose for three weeks in a row before we change to a new model. Predominantly, we are a group of oil painters however, we welcome artists working in pastels, charcoal, acrylics, watercolour and pencil. We meet on Friday mornings from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
CAW is also trialling extending the same model and pose to the new Friday PM Portraiture afternoon group from 1pm to 3pm.  This will give artists the option to book for either the morning, or afternoon session, or to book for both sessions. This extended session will provide further time for artists to study the model and paint larger or more complex portraits. Please Note: If you would like to attend the Friday afternoon group you will need to book separately for this under AG11 Friday PM Portraiture.  This current page is only for bookings for AG10 Friday AM Portraiture.

You will need to bring your own art materials, the CAW studio however, is equipped with easels, donkeys, small tables and chairs for your use.  Members of the group usually take turns at supplying morning tea, however if you would like a particular drink or snack you will need to bring this along.
Please note the CAW Guidelines for Oil Paint and Solvent Use: https://canberraartworkshop.org.au/oil-solvents-waste/ In general, solvents must be odorless, lids are to remain on solvent containers when not in use and all rags and materials associated with solvent and oil paint use must be taken home and not disposed of in the studio bins.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to help set up and your help is also appreciated with packing up after the session. We look forward to seeing you in the studio - for further information please contact the Group Convenor, Helen Marx at jaffa_@live.com.au
