Calling all printmakers – things are heating up and its time to celebrate the Megalo Wayzgoose Exhibition!

If you’ve never heard of a wayzgoose before, its an annual printmakers tradition dating back to the mid-1700s when a printing house would have an event to celebrate the printers’ work. We will be marking our very own wayzgoose this year with an exhibition for printmakers of all stripes – whether you are an etcher, screen printer, lithographer or relief roller – the Megalo Wayzgoose is for printmakers to come together!

The Wayzgoose Exhibition is free to enter up to three works,
with eligibility on the Megalo website.

Repeat Pattern Designs w/ Estelle Briedis

10am – 4pm | Saturday 21 + Sunday 22 September 2024

Join us at Megalo Print Studio for an immersive two-day fabric printing workshop! This special event is part of Floriade’s ‘Art in Bloom’ program and will be led by local textile designer Estelle Briedis.

Estelle, known for her exploration of tessellating imagery and pattern structures, will guide you in designing your own patterns for repeat printing on lengths of fabric. Through hands-on experience, you will transform your sketches into dynamic patterns, which will then be exposed onto screens with our UV exposure unit. The workshop culminates with printing your designs using Megalo’s fabric table.

Plate to Plate
Hands On Studio

31 August – 12 October

Plate to Plate showcases this wonderfully collaborative project exploring food from the garden to the kitchen and the studio, all brought together for the publication of a cookbook by local powerhouse Hands On Studio. Featuring prints, tea towels and an exuberant central table installation by Hands On Studio artists in collaboration with Mulch! community gardens, the Cook On Club, artist Robbie Karmel and book designer Caren Florance together with Megalo Print Studio.

If you haven’t picked up a copy, the Plate to Plate cookbook is available now at Megalo Print Studio for the duration of this exhibition.

Floor talk with Tilly Davey, Caren Florance and Robbie Karmel

Join Hands On coordinator and artist Tilly Davey together with book designer Caren Florance and drawing tutor Robbie Karmel from 10-11am in the gallery for this free-wheeling floor talk. Explore the exhibition and hear how it all came together within this uniquely collaborative project culminating in the beautifully crafted limited edition cookbook, Plate to Plate.

Plate to Plate continues through 12 October.

Workshops

September Print Social w/ Robbie Karmel + Francis Kenna

5:30pm – 8:00pm | Friday 27 September, 2024

Working with recycled tetra paks and milk cartons is an eco-friendly alternative for drypoint images. Join us for a collaborative Exquisite Corpse workshop, based on the surrealist party game in which each artist draws a section of a creature without seeing what the other artists have already produced.

CMYK Screen printing with Elise Stanley

10:00 am – 4:00 pm | Saturday 28 + Sunday 29 September 2024

CMYK is a screen printing process used to turn photographic imagery into a hand printed artwork. It involves creating four digital stencils, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key Black that are then layered over the top of one another to create a wide range of colours true to the image.

Etching fables with Maximilian Gosling

10am – 4pm | Saturday 19 + Sunday 20 October 2024

Join printmaker Max Gosling for an immersive weekend of storytelling through the art of etching. In this hands-on workshop, Max will introduce a classic fable that the group will explore together. Each participant will be assigned a section of the story to bring to life using the techniques of line etching and aquatint.

10am – 1pm | 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 October & 6 November 2024

Over 6 weekly sessions you will be introduced to the processes of screen printing on fabric, relief printing (linocut), and intaglio (etching) by Megalo staff in our state-of-the-art printmaking facility.

Monoprint + Bookmaking with Janet Parker-Smith

10am – 4pm | Saturday 2 + Sunday 3 November 2024

Discover a variety of monoprinting techniques and learn simple bookmaking skills. Learn how to create original prints using drawing methods, painterly printing techniques, stenciling and layering, as well as how to make bound books that can be used as diaries, drawing books and original art works.
