Mavis Hall was a longstanding and active member of CAW. She died on 29 July 2017 and named CAW as one of the beneficiaries of her estate. The CAW Trust, set up to administer the scholarship, must use the interest generated from the capital for payment of the scholarship.

Inaugural Mavis Hall Trust Grant

2021

CAW is very excited to announce the inaugural Mavis Hall CAW Trust Grant for 2021.

  • It is time to start planning an application now
  • Lodgment will be via the CAW website. You will be notified when the form is ready
  • The application period will close on 31 August 
  • All applications will be assessed by a selection panel (external to the CAW) and the award recipient will be announced at the CAW Annual General Meeting in October
  • The scholarship year will commence on 1 November and run for a 12-month period
  • Applications will require a detailed proposal stating the use to which the applicant wishes to expend the grant monies.

Value

The value in 2021 will be $2,000, paid in two 6-month installments.

Purposes

Purposes for which the Grant can be used include, but are not limited to:

  • Attending art workshops, academic art education programs nationally or internationally
  • A national or international tour of significant art installations, organisations or locations
  • Working with an art mentor
  • Mounting an exhibition of artwork including covering the costs of framing and hanging
  • Purchasing art materials
  • Rental of studio space
  • Any other relevant purpose reasonably connected to further progress the recipient’s advancement in any area of art deemed worthy by the Selection Panel and Trustees of the Mavis Hall CAW Trust.

Eligibility

A person will be eligible to apply who:

  • is an Australian or New Zealand citizen or holds Permanent Residence Status in Australia
  • is a member of Canberra Art Workshop (CAW) at the time of making an application to receive the Mavis Hall CAW Trust Grant
  • has been a member of CAW for a full 12 months before making an application to receive the Mavis Hall CAW Trust Grant
  • has not received a Mavis Hall CAW Trust Grant within the previous three years; and
  • if a previous recipient of the Mavis Hall CAW Trust Grant has fulfilled all reporting requirements.
    Payment & Acquittal
  • The grant will be paid to the award recipient in two equal instalments, one at the beginning of the grant year (1st November), and the other at the beginning of the second half of the grant year (1st May)
  • To receive the second payment, the recipient will be required to provide an evidence-based report to the Trustees detailing how they have benefited from the grant monies during the previous 6-month period. Further payment will be subject to the discretion of the Trustees
  • Discretion to consolidate these two payments or distribute them according to a different payment schedule is vested in the Trustees of the Mavis Hall CAW Trust
  • The recipient will be required to provide a final report to the Trustees two months after the grant has expired, detailing how the award recipient has benefited from the grant monies
  • The recipient will also be required to provide an artwork inspired by, and created as a result of the grant monies, within two months of the expiry date. The artwork will be exhibited in the next CAW Members’ Exhibition as well as on the CAW Online Gallery. All artworks will be held in a CAW collection.
