21–22 September 2019

Tutor: Michael Winters

Skill Level
Some experience with the medium and/or subject, but looking to learn new techniques and try new materials or advanced.
Workshop description
Day 1: the aim of workshop will be to produce a series of drawings on day one. The drawings will set out using line and colour to loosely express the landscape as evident in the drawings of Michael Shannon.
Day 2: Participants will then set out to express the landscape in paint. Areas of flat colour will be used to simplify the landscape. Then a more expressive painted  line will be used to describe both tree forms and the texture of the landscape. The work of the English painter Patrick Caulfield should be looked at to see how he uses this method.

About the tutor

Michael is a well-known Canberra artist and teacher.  He has exhibited widely in Australia and Europe.  His 2017 exhibition at the Orange Regional Gallery received a positive review from the art historian Sasha Grishin.
