Thursday Portrait Workgroup
Please contact the Convenor below with any questions about this group.
We are an enthusiastic group of artists who like to challenge ourselves drawing and painting live from the model. We work at our own pace without tutoring. Generally the model poses for two sessions and changes each fortnight. Some artists draw in pastels, charcoal and pencil, and many of us paint in oils, water-based oils, acrylic or watercolour. We pose the clothed model on a raised dais with draped fabric backgrounds with a spotlight highlighting the head.
Bring all your own art materials. There are easels, donkeys, small tables and chairs in the studio. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to set up. We also self-cater supper at tea time, so please add your name to our roster posted over the kitchen bench.
A Look Over Our Shoulders
Our models inspire us! Whether in costume or street clothes, each one brings their own personality to the dias. Walking around the room during model breaks also gives us a chance to enjoy, and learn from, the different perspectives, styles, techniques and compositions we each undertake.
